2018 year in review

Royal Academy Ballet exams

This year a number of students completed their Royal Academy of Dance, Ballet exams. Our results were outstanding with many of our exam candidates achieving high distinctions.

All students took part in a two-week training program to prepare for these exams.  As you can imagine, this takes a lot of hard work and dedication. Their passion and commitment is inspiring and shown through all their hard work.

This year a number of our junior students took part in a workshop with the Australian Ballet Company. This was an amazing experience and left them in awe of what they can achieve in the future.

Ballet Australasia Limited exams

Many students also participated in their BAL, Jazz and Tap exams. All of our students received extremely high results with majority achieving Honours with Distinction. We had several students receiving marks of 97 and above, this is very difficult to achieve and is a credit to them and their hard work

Cheerleading

Due to perseverance, our cheer squad had a highly successful season this year. The Junior Level 1 team received first place at the majority of competitions. At CheerCon they earned 4th overall out of all the routines, a remarkable achievement. Our last competition of the year was Dance and Cheer Events Nationals. Our Junior Team - Odyssey came first in their section and second overall receiving a Partial Paid bid to the JAMZ national Competition In Las Vegas. Winning this bid was the highlight to our year and we are very proud of how hard the students have worked to achieve this. Our juniors will be working towards travelling the Las Vegas in 2020.

Our cheer squad has grown considerably with our Mini, Junior, Senior and Open Teams, all having success at competitions this year. This is our first year that we have had an Open Cheer Squad Legacy. Our Open Stunt group successfully competed for the first time this year gaining many awards.

Troupe/Solo achievements

Our dance team performs in Jazz, Lyrical, contemporary, Hip-Hop and Pom. In team, solo and duo events. We attend many eisteddfods and Cheer and Dance events throughout the year. You have left a legacy on the School that will inspire our upcoming dancers to work harder. Keep courageous and never quit.

Rhiannon left us in 2017 to move to Melbourne. She was accepted to train full time at Transit Dance. This year Rhiannon auditioned and was accepted to an international course with the Budapest Dance company. Rhiannon is dancing with people from all over the world with different dance backgrounds. Rhiannon regularly takes classes with the Company director and company members. We look forward to hearing more from Rhiannon in the future.

Jack Whiter

Our mission is to equip and train our students with the skills needed to further their dance career should they wish to do so. An example of this is the success of Jack, a former ADCC dancer. Jack had an amazing year at the West Australian Ballet as a junior artist. He was given the opportunity to perform in some wonderful ballets often featuring in challenging roles. Jack performed as a Bagpiper in La Syl-phede, a Vampire in Dracula and numerous roles in the Nutcracker (including the Spanish and Arabian dances and, the most exciting King Rat). We look forward to what his future with this company will bring as he joins the core de ballet next year!

Canberra Dance Festival
